It's no secret I love Catherine Gayle's novels, but this very well may be her best yet. I loved this holiday romance about Mitch "Q" Quincey and his ex-wife, Mia.

Q and Mia have been divorced for some time and with his job of being an NHL star, he doesn't get to spend the time he needs and wants to with his little girl, Marley. With three goals in mind over his very quick holiday break, he heads home to Canada to try to accomplish them.

Throughout this novella, Catherine Gayle takes us inside the relationship between Q and his high school sweetheart and shows us how much both of them are hurting and wishing that things were different. With a little coaxing by Mia's well meaning Mom, Q finally starts to see that maybe he can accomplish not only his holiday hat trick, but he might score a bigger goal.

I'm not sure I can accurately articulate how much I loved this story. Whether you've read the other Portland Storm novels or not (although you should, they're awesome!), this is one you should definitely pick up.

Holiday Hat Trick Portland Storm Book 8 edition by Catherine Gayle Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This story is okay. For me, both of the main characters seemed a bit shallow. What I liked the most about it was the interactions with the children at the holiday gathering. Those scenes seemed the most realistic and believable to me. I didn't care much for the love story part.
Loved the whole Portland Storm series.....if you enjoy the game of hockey and a bit of romance thrown in, do not start with Holiday Hat Trick....pick up Book One and read through the series....author does a great job with het characters and knowledge of the game. Well worth reading and can't wait for the next book in the series to be released!
Mitchell "Q" Quincey is headed home for the holidays. He goes with some specific goals in mind. When he arrives at his ex-wife's, there's no denying that the love is still there.

Holiday Hat Trick fits the bill for a sweet holiday romance. I'm a sucker for second chance stories. Gayle delivers a nice holiday gift with this latest Portland Storm story.
Mitch and Mia divorced as she lost herself and couldn't stand the constant moving once they had their daughter Marley. He never stopped loving her and her family, especially her mom, work toward bringing them back together during the Christmas holiday. He is wonderful with their daughter and Mia knows Marley should have more daddy time. They happily agree to try again. Nice holiday tale.
This story is short, but it really packs a really, really big punch. It's both heart-wrenching and heart-warming at the same time. The moments Mitch spent with his baby daughter was so precious. Mia I wanted to slap around a few times. Talk about sending out mixed signals, and all the while she was slowly tearing Mitch's heart out. I can understand why she felt the way she did, it couldn't have been easy for her to be uprooted over and over again...but it wasn't his choice either. But if you really love someone, you work together to make the marriage work. Whatever it takes, you just do it!

I've read this whole series now in a little under a week, anbd I've loved them all. Truthfully though....I'm a bit sad now, since I have to wait until the 19th of this month for the next book to come out. What a bummer!
So, this is the eighth book I've read of Ms. Gayle's. I've loved them all, with the exception of book 7, only liked that one.

I guess this one baffles me. I understand completely what was going on with Mia, but in today's day and age, there were so many ways Mia could have handled her problem without resorting to divorce.

She had a supportive family.
She had a supportive husband.

If she'd spoken to them about her thoughts and feelings, then they would have all rallied around and helped her. She could have been spending time "finding herself" with the full support of the people who loved her.

Instead she did something rash, something I'd expect from a younger person. Like I said, baffling.

Still overall, good work. Am moving on to book 9.
I enjoyed all the books in this series. Although I know very little about hockey I enjoyed the mixture of romance and the game and the characters are all likable. My only caveat is it might be better to buy the two bundles instead of each individual book. The reason is often what the author calls a novella is the first chapter (s) of the next book. So you pay for a novella and then find it ends abruptly and begins all over again. Holiday Hat Trick is a good example. It is listed as book 8 but it is actually the beginning chapters of book 9
