My favorite sexy sleuth Sophie Katz is back in Kyra Davis' fourth Sophie novel! Sophie's life continues in the big city of San Francisco and she has recently found the house of her Dreams, a 3 bedroom victorian. The only problem is her slimy ex-husband just happens to be the Realtor and after 10 years away from him Sophie is none to happy to see him. To top that off the owner of the house is crazy and is making Sophie hold seances as part of her contract to buy the house. In the mean time she's beginning to wonder if he is right about the ghosts in her new home, as strange footsteps and other phenomenon seem to be running amuck in her new dream home. Sophie's current sexy boyfriend Anatoly thinks it's all in her head, so now it's up the her to figure it out. Through a series of unfortunate events ( murder, lies etc..) Sophie and her wonderfully quirky friends start out in their own investigation and are determined to find out who or what is responsible for the strange things going on Sophie's house. This book is a great read, you'll find yourself staying up late in bed just to read "one more chapter", which will turn into three, lol. I'm looking forward to the future Sophie books!
I love this series and this book didn't disappoint. Mystery intrigues and super natural put a new twist on my favorite series. The characters feed off their bizarre connections to our favorite bumbling detective and antagonistic relationships.
This book had lots of action in it but not much suspense. It was rather easy to figure out the who was responsible. Would have liked more of a challenge.
As this is my third book in this series, I overall enjoyed the book but was disappointed when I saw the same pattern developing with the love/hate relationship involving another of the "single" detectives. The storyline was fine, but a little predictable. I still got a few laughs throughout the book and of course like happy endings.
This series is delightful and I’m so happy I picked it up. This one had a lot more heart to it which was a nice change. Sophie is a fun heroine to follow.
Trouble and murderers seem to follow Sophie Katz wherever she goes. In the latest book... an unexpected run-in with Sophie's ex-husband leads her to her dream home, which unfortunately seems to be haunted by one or more ghosts. In order for Sophie to purchase the home, at it's amazing low price of 900K, she must agree to hold regular seances in her home and attempt to contact the dead mother of the current owner. In addition, people in the seance group start dropping dead, and Sophie decides that the only way she will get her hands on the deed is to figure out who is murdering everyone. Of course, Anatoly, her boyfriend, again insists that Sophie keep her nose out of investigating. But then, Sophie never listens to Anatoly does she? I thought this book was entertaining but it was a little too light and fluffy. Still some good humor as Marcus, Sophie's favorite gay hairdresser, plays a primary role as her murder-investigating sidekick.
After defining their relationship in the last book (Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandin pre-breakup) Sophie now wants to find a house for her and Anatoly to share together and the perfect house has become available at a steal! There are two drawbacks... first, Sophie's ex husband is the relator and secondly, the owner wants Sophie to contact his mothers ghost. If she doesn't do this then the deal's off. Throw in some well placed murder and you've got another Sophie Katz story. I have to say that as much as I liked this story I had hoped for more Anatoly. Sophie and Anatoly's relationship is experiencing some growing pains and the heat from the previous book is missing in this one for the most part. All in all still a great showing and I'm on to the next book!
