This Heart of Mine Susan Elizabeth Phillips Books
This is the first Chicago Stars book I have read, but the story is still easy to follow and the back story does not slow the plot. Molly Somerville has had a crush on Kevin Tucker. Kevin is the Quarterback for the Stars who always has a foreign model on his arm. Molly is the author of the " Daphne the Bunny " children's books who also illustrates them. She is the half sister of Phobe Calebow, owner of the Stars and Dan, the coach. She is given to episodes where she does something drastic to escape the perfection she is always trying to achieve. She gave away the fortune her father left her at one point and struggles to pay the bills.Kevin is given to danger with extreme sports although he is serious about his football career. After being fined, he is sent by Coach Dan to their lake house to think about things. Molly felt one of her episodes come on and tries to escape doing something stupid by going to the lake house. Something stupid eventually happens.
Molly becomes pregnant, but Dan finds out and forces a marriage. Molly miscarries and the marriage is set to be annulled. Both Molly and Kevin are damaged people. Neither is a good bet, but they just might be soul mates together if they can just get their acts together.

This Heart of Mine Susan Elizabeth Phillips Books Reviews
I thought this would be just another 'football player meets girl' book. The setting fit. Then after a couple chapters, the story's location changes, and, I became consciously surprised! It changed to a location in nature..not a football camp, but a special camp..one I loved. I want to tell you about it, but then that would give away the surprise! I recommend, instead, that you give yourself a treat and read this...maybe with a cup of coffee and a muffin! I had not found a book I really liked for a couple months. I started reading this and did not stop.
First let me say I liked the overall book. I would not have had a rape it it. It could have been sex but lighthearted I have a crush on you sex. Then realizing what you have done go from there. But it is just a book. Take what you like and move on. I have read some real trashy things in books but not in Susan Elizabeth Phillips books. One should not play around with rape. Way too serious for sweet romances.
I really enjoyed the quick wit of Molly, but I just could not get into Kevin. I didn't feel as if his charactor had any depth and I don't think the author took the time to fully developed him as a character. Molly's family was very annoying and at multiple times I skipped over their scenes, I wish Molly would have stood up for herself against them more.
I did enjoy the additional Daphne the bunny scenes. I thought the author did a wonderful job incorporating them into the flow of the book, they did not distract or take a way from the story at all. I actually wish they were real because I would like to read more about Daphne's adventures.
Overall a quick read that was a good distraction for a rainy day, with witty dialogue that felt real. Draw backs were the charector development and Molly's annoying family.
You know that time when you feel so restless you want to do something you don't usually do that is so far out from what is expected of you? Molly Sommerville has that buzz from time to time that led to the crazies and twisties of this book.
In all of SEP's books I've read so far, this has the most twisted and crazy funny characters. The author, Ms Phillips, gives us Molly Sommerville, brainy, well behaved usually, unless she has that once in a blue moon streak of Crazy where she colors her hair, give away millions, commits a second degree felony and sneak in the unsuspecting Kevin Tucker, hotshot quarterback who has crazies of his own.
SEP's characters are like in all her other books, well developed down to the supporting characters. Her humor is consistent and of course her heartwarming ending is ever present. I'm not a fan of series books but the Chicago stars' stories are worth my while.
I had fun reading this one, so far this has been my favorite. I hope you enjoy it too.
THIS HEART OF MINE is the fifth novel in Phillips Chicago Stars series. Molly Somerville is the younger sister of the owner of the Chicago Stars. She has always been so perfect except for times when she has changed her hair -- and then a reckless, self-destructive person has emerged. Kevin Tucker is the quarterback for the Chicago Stars and Molly has had a long-time crush on him. The two end up together and Molly takes advantage of Kevin while he is asleep. She ends up pregnant and they end up married. That is where the romance actually begins.
This book is not for everyone. Molly, in essence, rapes Kevin while he is sleeping. This premise will probably turn off some readers. Having lived through the bodice ripper romances, however, this did not prevent me from enjoying the romance. There is also a miscarriage and its emotional aftermath that I thought was dealt with in a realistic manner. Ultimately, I enjoyed this story of two people who want love so much but are afraid of being hurt. Phillips has a way of making a story funny and yet serious. The characters in her story make serious mistakes on their way to happiness, but I liked the journey. A Story that can make me smile ans sigh at the same time is special indeed.
I'd rate this a 4.5.
This book started me on the SEP journey - I picked this paperback up in a "for free" bin and read it on a whim. I see now that other people find the storyline to be offensive -- at my first read, I did not interpret it this way at all. Call me a terrible feminist (and I am a feminist) but when you pick up a novel like this, there is a certain suspension of disbelief that one must have. The other elements of the book that I loved -- Molly's quirky, nerdy self, French-obsessed children's story writer, the character of the quarterback, the background of the summer camp -- brought the book together and made it a very fun read!!
I'm sorry that others find this to be so offensive when I just found it to be fun. I continued to read all of SEPs other novels, and they are all delightful, IMHO.
